Anybody ever JS with skis?

Looking to go out west skiing some this winter just curious as to if anybody's ever done it with skis and what the process is. Or if the only way is to nonrev and check them.

Never done the skis, but non-revving out of Denver and the resorts during the season is problematic. The flights just stay full. It may be a little better this year with the financial crisis, but I bet not much. FWIW I'd try getting a regular ticket at the best price you can find. If the JS is the only option and nobody else here has any ideas then I'd consider renting the skis.

Ship the skis to your destination and jumpseat without them.

If you don't mind flying on the backside of the clock and want to get there free, try the cargo guys. I had no problem bringing a bike with me on a trip this summer. I know they're cool about skis too. I asked them this question last year on a thread here so it should be included in a search.

I've taken a snowboard on Fedex a couple of times.

From a hard-core skiier...rent the skiis, but bring your own boots.

You can always get skiis appropriate for the conditions and the mission, but your boots should be custom-fitted or at least well-broken in.

Don't j/s with skis. Its more of a pain in the butt than it is worth. I speak from personal experience. Rent you self a nice demo pair and maybe you'll find a really good set.
After many years of commuting, I finally learned the less you carry the better off you are.
J/S in and out of Denver is problematic during ski season. AA has a lot of guys that live in the greater Denver area and work in DFW or ORD.
If your traveling alone or don't have set plans such as non-refundable hotel reservation then I would j/s. Otherwise I would buy a dirt cheap ticket.
