I was 4 years old and visiting relatives in Lighthouse Point at the time of the EAL 401 crash, I have vague memories of it on the TV and in the newspapers.

Several years later I read "The Ghost of Flight 401" and remember the very vivid description of the events leading up to it - the gear warning light distraction, the autopilot disconnect with the unnoticed c-chord chime, the second-by-second description of the crash, and the rescue by this gentlemen out gigging frogs. It was the first and biggest nonfiction I'd read in the 70's, and I pretty much remembered every detail.

RIP. My condolences to family, friends and survivors.
