Have a Good One

Friends: Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere . Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

Ahh... You mean Merry Christmas? Well... Merry Christmas to you too!

In regards to that, I had trouble find cards that said Merry Christmas!!! Almost all of them said Happy Holidays. If someone wants to send Happy Holidays that's fine with me, but what about that people that do want Merry Christmas?

Aviation Ref = I saw a card with Santa in an airplane

Etymologically speaking...

Holiday is certainly a linguistic derivative of "holy day". It would be entertaining to see the faces of the mindlessly PC as you wished them "happy holy days".

Bravo

The intelligent, sarcastic wit of Jungle is what makes him one our favorite posters on this site!!

And Wheelie: cheers to you as well for using 'etymologically' in your title, as well as the subject merit of your post.

For everyone else: Festivus!! Let the feats of strength begin!!

I just say "happy Han-za-mas", that covers Hanukuh, Kwanzaa, and Christmas all in one. I need to figure out how to get Eid al-Adha in there for all the muslims. :)

I scratch it out and write in "Merry Christmas". Every time you say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" .... an elf dies. My wife hates it when I tell people that in public. :D But so be it, I refuse to take part in such politically correct nonsense.

LOL. Jungle, you should be a staff writer for one of the newcomers to Washington. Way to say everything eloquently while effectively masking your own true convictions on "controversial" issues.

By the way, when DID it become a crime to say "Merry Christmas"? Even people of other persuasions can usually recognize that statement as an innocent statement of goodwill and kindness. If I say "Merry Christmas" to someone and they tell me that they are Jewish(for example), well I add that I wish them a blessed Hanukkah as well.

Anyway, I hope you and the other readers have a blessed holiday season - no matter what you celebrate.
