How long are you actually flying the plane during a flight

How long after takeoff and how long before landing are you guys/girls actually hand flying the airplane???? Honestly

TristarJS30 01-05-2009 04:39 PM

Depends on the day, but I tend to hand fly up to about 10,000 feet and when the plane is base to final on a visual.

USMC3197 01-05-2009 04:39 PM

Up to or above FL 180.

Manager in training? :D

Personally, I fly it non-stop, don't need no stinkin' auto-pilot... We would all benefit from auto-managers though! ;)

ya... thats it! Or it could be that Im tired of the "inspiring" pilots focusing on "how cool it is to hand fly" issues and continue to lower the bar and bring down the industry just for a little jet time and 14 dollars an hour at the next outfit that gives them a chance for interview at a mere 18K investment for a "preparation course".

For every ten "how cool is your jet" question would be nice to hear "how much you get paid? or How much are you home a month?" but no... Apparently the only thing important is how much hand flying we do regardless of how much we get paid to do the hand flying.

Ya your right its a little harsh... forgive my bitterness...
10 years in this business and those jets aren't so shinny anymore.

Man, who's hiring for $14/hour? I'm in! I think you need to spend a little time thinking back about why you started flying. You're probably one furlough away from the same perspective. I understand it's a job for you and no more but some folks dream of flying the "not so shinny jets" you refer too.
You're "high horse" comment might be better if it was kept in you "fat" veteran pocketbook next time.

How many more years until you retire? Seriously, if you are this bitter after 10 years you should find another career. Nobody is holding you hostage.

Sorry to disagree with you, N287, but no they don't. Bitter people will always find something to complain about. For them, the glass is always half empty.

To answer the question, usually the same as TristarJS30 unless I have a training event or PC coming up. The logic is to maintain a high level of proficiency but also to provide the smoothest ride possible for our passengers.

10 posts and only 3 of them have anything to do with the original question. The rest are just a bunch of flamebait and insult flying back and forth. Enough already. Thread closed.
