I wouldn't consider this topic too controversial on the APC forums! It is a topic which should be discussed, seeing as how drug law interpretation is becoming a popular subject throughout the nation, (especially in high schools and colleges).

California is getting yet another review on drug laws specifically targeting marijuana, and the legality of possession under a few grams. The aim of the most recent legislation has been to legalize and tax the plant. Medical marijuana has seen a lot of popularity in the society of ailing people with serious, pain-inflicting diseases and conditions etc.. Another benefit from the plant is hemp, a proven agricultural rope which can withstand immense pressure. It is cheap to produce, and you can't get high on it!

Back to the original topic, Flying high is not recommended. The biggest issue, in my opinion, are the specific effects on certain individuals. Some experience a release of Dopamine, which calms the user. The rest experience a high concentration of Serotonin, which in some cases can lead to hallucinations. I would not like to be in a plane with the PIC, or even a Co-pilot experiencing hallucinations.

I have heard stories, I would not do it personally. The mile-high club is over rated in my opinion, and my money could go somewhere more constructive rather than spending $50 on marijuana, and a flight that I won't remember the next morning!

Even if MJ is fully legalized for medical or recreational purposes, it will still be no different than booze or prescription narcotics...don't fly after consumption.
