To be honest with you Dougdrvr, with what vagabond posted, hell I would think that you'd probably find that scenario in some of our cities today. It just doesn't get the coverage as other stories do.

Only to come back to hear people collecting unemployment because they got laid off their favorite job.... Or struggling because they can't pay the ARM on their $600k house...or complaining because health insurance costs too much (try not caring if the stream next to your hut is contaminated because it's the only place to get any water)

We are extremely fortunate when you only have a small pot to p*** in,
but it's enough. "Making do",another way of expressing DOD's term,
"field expediency" has been a way of life in this region.
A friend of ours died yesterday, and he exemplified this culture.

What people need:

Air
Water
Food
Shelter
Clothing

Everything else is a luxury.

I've seen enough of the world to know I'm lucky to live in the USA. My wife needs to see what I've seen.
