The More Things Change...
 
I used to wonder what pilots did before airplanes were invented....

I picked up a copy of Mark Twain's Life on the Mississippi, he tells about his career as a river pilot....turns out that 150 years ago they had "Shiny Steamboat Syndrome". Anyway, it's a pretty good read, and most of us will probably relate to it.

In the forward lounge of the "American Queen" steamboat there was a brass plaque with this quote from Twain:

"The pilot cares about nothing but the river, and his pride in his profession exceeds that of kings."
