Summer BBQ In Seattle: An Open Invitation

You are all invited to Seattle for the first ever APC Summer BBQ. I know there are many of you/us who live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. And if you do not live here, I think there are things called layovers and jumpseats. :)

I am thinking that if the response is overwhelming, I will rent space at a park somewhere, otherwise, I will host this in my backyard. Thinking of July 4th weekend. I will supply the food, but you can bring your own beverage. Hmmm, should I FedEx over some Memphis ribs? :D

RSVP by May 29.

NOTE: I'm moving this thread to all the forums in seriatim in the hopes of letting as many people know about it as possible. If I get no more than 20 yes responses, this BBQ will be cancelled due to lack of interest.

atpwannabe 05-04-2009 11:57 AM

Don't know if I'll be able to make it, (I'm in South Florida), but, if the opportunity presents itself......count me in.

I think that it's a great idea. Maybe more in other parts of the country will follow your lead.

Thanks for the generosity. Can I bring a gal. of "koolaid" to the party? I wonder if the admins at FI will do the same thing?? I bet there'd be fist fights going on all over the place.

Yeah, you'd better hire some extra "moderators" for this clam bake!!!
Everyone has to wear a nametag with their screen name on it!!!:cool:

waflyboy 05-04-2009 02:03 PM

I will attend, if able. 4th of July weekend might be tough to swing for days off, though.

ExperimentalAB 05-04-2009 02:06 PM

I should be able to go -- have a Fly-In out East to attend around that time. I'll let you know for sure once I have dates! Sounds like a good time :D

taylorjets 05-04-2009 02:30 PM

Twister anyone?

ExperimentalAB 05-04-2009 03:05 PM

Darts?? ;):D

USMC3197 05-04-2009 03:33 PM

wow... if this becomes a annual thing, I can only imagine it get bigger and bigger. (Central Florida) Wish I can make it.

Perhaps we can start doing regional BBQ's every 2 months or so... Im down to host a SO FLA BBQ sometime... Lets see how your Seattle one turns out!

As far as July 4th, I need to be with the Fam, but another time would be fun for sure...

tortue 05-05-2009 07:37 AM

I'm local and I would go.

iflythewest 05-05-2009 01:08 PM

As long as I can get the days off, count me in! I am a Tacoma native.

Denny Crane 05-05-2009 04:06 PM

Vagabond,

It sounds like a GREAT idea but I imagine alot of guys/gals won't be able to commit until after July schedules come out around mid June. I'm in that bunch.

Ted Striker 05-05-2009 06:16 PM

Good idea. But, fourth of July is a tough date.

Radials Rule 05-06-2009 05:58 AM

If HotMamaPilot RSVP's, count me in!:)

vagabond 05-06-2009 07:40 AM

Ok, sounds like the masses has spoken. I suggest that the date be moved to July 11 and that efforts be made to visit the Museum of Flight. July 11, as anyone with a pulse and an ounce of brain knows, is the 40th anniversary of the moon landing. I am going to squeeze my contact(s) for discounted tickets.

And to add more incentive, I will plan for games involving darts, badminton and volleyball. Anybody here want to re-create the volleyball scenes from Top Gun? Anybody have the body type for it?

So, mark your calendars anew. Bid for a Seattle layover. Call your jumpseat coordinator. Take the bus (Greyhound, not Airbus) over if you have to!

The Dude Abides 05-06-2009 10:10 AM

Definately add me to the maybe list! But if I see a bunch of shirtless, sweaty dudes, I'm out:D

I suggest that you schedule some APC boxing matches at the party! The first match between Saabrowski and anybody who loves colgan. The heavyweight and main event match will feature SkyHigh vs. DE727ups. You could actually sell tickets and make an impressive profit off of this extravaganza, meanwhile you could be the next Don King!

Can anybody think of any other great matches?

I'd take the Greyhound Bus to see that one!!!!:p

Seriously though, all BS aside.....if the opportunity arises for me to get out there, I will be there.

July 4th

I am interested however the July 4th weekend is difficult for a lot of reasons. I usually have family commitments during that time. Others I suspect will be expected to work. I would suggest something that is off peak so that more people could attend. It might be easier to get a venue as well.

SkyHigh.

July 4th?

You're gonna get sent to the Principal's Office for not paying attention.

Ewfflyer 05-07-2009 07:01 AM

She already moved it to July 11th;)

I don't think my schedule nor job would allow, but if it can work, I'll be there!(No jumpseat priv's here)

taylorjets 05-09-2009 02:29 PM

count me in... +1... Should be fun...

frozenboxhauler 05-09-2009 02:49 PM

fingers crossed

July is my training month but I will do my best to work around it. It sounds like fun!

Sorry

July the 11th. Sounds like fun. I am going to break out my Hawaiian shirt. :)

UnlimitedAkro 05-09-2009 05:27 PM

I just read through the party details... and just to clarify:

-"re-inacting" the volleyball scene from Top Gun
-On my days off
-In July when my kids have off school
-SkyHigh in a Hawaiian Shirt
-A visit to an aviation museum with a bunch of aviation dorks, I mean "enthusiasts".
-A large group of people that don't know each other and have the one commonality of spending too much time on the computer chatting on an online internet forum.

Have fun!

vagabond 05-10-2009 03:24 PM

Ok, forget the Top Gun volleyball stuff. Geez, what was I thinking? This?

I'll be making another pitch/reminder in mid-June. I hope to see many of you, but somehow female intuition tells me that the former fighter pilot types don't want to take the chance that the rest of us will say something like "so YOU once flew the F-16? You?? Then there's hope for me yet!" bwahahahaha.

One thing is guaranteed - the ribs and steaks are going to be the best. It will bring tears to your eyes.

SkyHigh, are you going to fly over in your little plane?

I might fly over however driving is a lot easier. Have you picked a location yet?

Just another reminder that July 11 is coming up fast. Sometime around the third week of June, I will make another announcement (probably by moving this thread around all over the place again) and ask those of you who can make it to send me a PM. My reply back to you will contain the exact address of our little soiree.

As a further incentive, I am planning to have t-shirts printed up, so do let me know what size you wear. Size matters, I've always said.

And regarding entertainment, we still have the Museum of Flight tour, badminton, miniature golf. I could look around for a licensed massage therapist, but the Top Gun volleyball reenactment is definitely out! Sorry.

I wouldn't call it lack of interest but if you only knew what we did down south for the 4th you'd understand why I couldn't make it. :D

Ahh just saw it was the 11th... I'll have you let you know after my bid comes out and also see if I can crash at an old student's of mine. Her new BF might not like the idea lol.

You could just invite everyone to the reception.... Free beer and wine right?

Cancelled!

I am sorry to announce that the BBQ is cancelled. If you'd like a get together anyway, go to tortue's wedding and tell them vagabond sent you!
