APC on CNN

Just saw APC mentioned on CNN. They were referencing the pilot pay section.
The server was overloaded shortly after that.:)

Oh, I wondered what was going on.

But would a lay-visitor know how to interpret the pay charts to determine pilot pay? It's kind of complicated

The female reporter who was showcasing APC on CNN was clueless; she of course did not make sure that she had her facts straight, and then showed everyone the wrong way to interpret pay based on the scales. She said and pointed out the first year pay of an FO at Colgan, and then compared it to I think Delta DC9 first year FO pay. However, she pointed to the hourly pay number, and said that was what they made for the whole year-Example: $23 hr=23,ooo a year, and $52 hr=52,000 a year.

Of course not. But they would sure make it sound like they knew what they were talking about.

That's usually a good rule of thumb. At least it worked for me for the last 15 years.

$21/hr = $21,000 is correct based on 1000 hours/yr rule. She was reading it wrong but good for her being a clueless idiot about aviation (just like 99% of her viewers) made it understandable for all the other clueless idiots.

I sent CNN an e-mail explaining how to correctly use the pilot pay scales on Airline Pilot Central. Hopefully, they will correct their story and show the public how to accurately read these rates, which are even lower than what they appeared based on the previous CNN story. However, I'm sure nothing will change.

However the point she was making is that 1st year pay at Delta is double than Colgan still stands. Though I wonder why that is a surprise.
