word du jour
Yesterday, I started a new thread entitled "joke du jour." Thanks to everyone who thought it was funny and more thanks to those who added their own not inconsiderably funny ones. [I must apologize for the annoying lawyer habit of using double negatives, but I just cannot help myself]. It gladdens the heart (mine, at least) that people can laugh about themselves.
Today, I have this contribution. I have a word or phrase of the day. I will include its meaning(s) and use the word in a sentence that has an aviation or pilot or APC context. You are encouraged to use that same word or phrase in your own sentence. Knowing the personalities of the folks on this forum, I expect a quick degeneration, but I am hopeful this will be something fun and light-hearted. If nothing else, you would have learned a new word.
Word/Phrase: Stormy Petrel (noun)
Meaning: 1. Any of various small sea birds of the family Hydrobatidae, having dark plumage with paler underparts; also called storm petrel.
2. One who brings discord or strife, or appears at the onset of trouble.
Usage: When word got out that several new members of this forum were indeed hot-blooded females, a stormy petrel by the name of Slice could barely conceal his simmering excitement.

Stormy Petrel
An Englishman, fearing a gasoline shortage, ordered a large quantity. When the tank truck arrived, he realized that he had not purchased any barrels. "Blimey," he cried, "I've nowhere to store me petrol!"
