new here

Hi all,

I'm new to the Forums today and looking for some advice. I'm a commercial pilot w/ Multi and instrument, the problem is i only have 250 hours. i'm a Lt in the air force right now so i'm looking for something local to the dayton Oh area to do part time. I've already started my CFI training so i can do that but i was looking for something different to do for a while and to help pay for my CFI flying. Oh well, look forward to the conversation. Cheers.

I'm also a CGO in the AF. However , I only have a ppl.

In your shoes I would complete the CFI and work at the local aero club training UPT bound and IFT cadets.

Again, in your shoes - I would remain in the AF till I had my ATP then depending on the time in service make the stay or go decision. I would not leave the AF for flying if you like your job / doing well in your career. Flying jobs (good and bad) will be there when you retire.

One more thing - don't let the flying become all consuming. At this stage your priority should be your military career. Make the most of it...I was able to get all my education , certifications (CISCO), and build a nice retirement nest egg to supplement my retirement and lean years as a regional F/O.

Forgive the ramblings of an old man - my intentions are not to talk down to you or sound like your father/mother. Just sharing my thought with a fellow brother in arms.

Sincerely,
LAFF

Thanks for the reply. i completely agree with the direction you suggest. as far as my military career goes i don't really enjoy my job. I went to college to fly and after 4 years of flying 3-5 days a week i graduate and sit at a desk (ITS DRIVING ME CRAZY!) i'll give active duty 2 or 3 more trys to get into pilot training then maybe try the guard or reserve to get a slot. by that time i'll have my masters and my CFI. Where do you work at? Later. Oh in case you wonder what job could be so bad, i'm in acquisitions. Cheers.

What flying unit(s) are at WPAFB now? Suggest you get to know these guys---maybe get a ride or two as well as a UPT recommendation. I was in the old 4950th Test Wing, and we did a lot of sitting at desks too, as do rated pilots at many bases. BTW, I thought Wright-Pat and the Dayton area were great places to be--please make the most of this assignment, which is probably a lot better than most 2Lts get. Good Luck!
