No doubt, one of the best roles ever played by Sterling Hayden.

Speaking of roles in the movie, Kubrick said in an interview that the casting plan had Peter Sellers playing a fourth part, that of Maj. "King" Kong. But Sellers couldn't climb around in the bomb bay due to a leg injury, so they hired Slim Pickens, which turned out to be even better. Kubrick also said that the original concept was a straight drama, like "Fail-Safe", but he found that "we were being forced to throw away a lot of good stuff because it was too hilarious, so we realized that the movie would have to be a comedy." :D

Now this is what I was looking for! Thanks for explaining some of these things people... The map of "the roads in the sky" is really neat, I would have never connected the shapes to a map that existed like this. Thanks for the info and I take back the negative comments.

We could and probably have done a complete thread on this movie. There are LOTS of bits that escape the first time view. The low level scenes show the shadow of a B-17. When they were flying the low level routes for the movie, they often ran into problems with the authorities.. a B-17 doing what??? Also, the USAF gave Kubrick NO help on the movie and when it came out, they wanted to know how they got the detail for the cockpit.

FWIW, if you look at how Kong runs the crew, VERY good CRM. And this was before CRM. Challenge and response. F/O flies during emergency. Delegation of tasks.

And the names.. Merkin Muffly? A BALD President? (check out merkin) Bat Guanno. General Turgidson (from turgid) and Mandrake. All probably the idea of Terry Southern.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.

FWIW, Premier Kissof would use chemtrails.

1) the trails seem to form distinctive shapes. Common shapes include "X" shapes, "Z" shapes, "A" shapes and grids. Is this just coincidence even though it shows up all around the world or deliberate?

2) There is clear evidence that shows periods of the trails to be consistent then a sudden switching off into normal contrails that dissipate within a few seconds from the same aircraft.

3) Clear sign of two planes side by side, one leaving a persistant trails the other a normal contrail that dissipates in seconds.

This is the youtube video I looked at. If anyone cares to spend 10 minutes of their lives and watch it, I'd like to get your opinion. YouTube - 3 of 27 Chemtrail film: Don't Talk About the Weather

If you believe that, then you probably believe in this:

I don't think he agrees with the chemtrail thing. He eluded to that in a follow-up post. Still had some fun poking him with a stick, which he was gracious about. All in good fun. Welcome Narbs.

That said, I do believe in Santa Claus. All my kids look like him, and for some reason, all their birthdays are in September. Apparently, Santa only comes once a year.
