Hobby or Career -- ??
 

My current career is that of a network administrator. I enjoy what I do, and I enjoy flying as well. I'm a recent instrument single engine land pilot with about 200 hours, and am in a 1/12 share of a fantastic Cessna 172.

Before computers/technology stole my heart, flying was what I always wanted to do. Although I don't have many opportunities for networking, with those that have flown charter, regional, cargo, majors .. I'd be interested in knowing what others have done in "switching" careers. What hurdles have you gone through etc?

One question I have .. I'm out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin (MKE). How do you find which carriers fly out of here -- that is, I know Midwest Airlines, etc .. fly from MKE .. but how do you determine if such regionals like Republic, PSA, Pinnacle, etc -- ever make it to Milwaukee. One deciding factor in the thought of switching to that of a career pilot would be that we're probably not moving in the next 10-years from here.

If you enjoy doing the computer thing, stick with it. However, since you already are in a partnership, why not advance your ratings? You could work through and get your CFI, then instruct for the partnership or on the weekends on the side. There are a couple guys at my school who are aerospace engineers and play flight instructor on the weekend. They enjoy doing both but there's something to be said about the fact that they're making my monthly salary in a week...

Don't often agree with my beloved friend Skyhigh but he is onto somthing here. Enjoy life and enjoy the 172. Can't vouch for his taylorcraft but that sounds fun too!
Flying for a living has the potential to take some of the fun out of it - be careful!
