Halloween Etiquette...?
Hey guys,
I was just wondering what your opinion is on this topic. Here is my situation: I live in a 3 bedroom condo with two (crashpad) roommates. I own the joint and live here full time. I am 22 and have no kids. The condo complex has somewhere around 75 condos. There are lots of kids. Am I still required to give out candy? Does it make me a horrible person to shut the porch light off and pretend I'm not home? I'd do the 'ole bowl of candy on the porch, but I'm pretty sure someone would take to bowl. |
Turn out the lights and put a fake eviction notice on the door?:D

Be that guy that hands out pennies or toothbrushes.

I'd do the 'ole bowl of candy on the porch, but I'm pretty sure someone would take to bowl. Actually, shutting everything down does not make you a bad person and not doing it at all is better than running out about halfway through the night. My neighborhood is not that hard to predict. Generally, about 75-100 kids and it runs from about 6 till 8 PM. Pretty consistent for the last 6 years. Halloween was one of the few fond memories of childhood for me. We traveled in packs and had a runner take the bounty back to home base so we didn't have to pack it the whole night. Back then, it wasn't an issue for kids being out on their own without adult supervision either. |
Just give out some candy you halloween scrooge.

I wouldn't be a Halloween scrooge if candy wasn't so damn expensive. I've got no problem leaving out some candy on the porch if I'm out there with my own kids saying "trick or treat," but when some ridiculous butt much says "trick or treat" and doesn't even bother to say "thank you," Ive got a serious problem. I may not have the best Halloween etiquette, but at least I have manners. |

The Great Pumpkin
Try the "Charlie Brown" approach:
Drop a rock into each kid's bag. If they say "Thank you," give them a "second" piece of candy. Two years ago, some High Schoolers came to my door...smoking, and playing "trick or treat." I said if you're old enough to smoke, you're too old for free candy...beat it. |

Wow. Really? How dare those young and possibly nervous children that are knocking on a strangers door not act like grown ups and possess all the maturity and social etiquette skills that you obviously have.
And you're 22? |
