It's funny, now tranfering fuel from the aux tanks is air-to-air refueling. And you need a three man crew "primarily to manage the complex fuel system dating from an era before automation." I was working on a 4 foot stick to reach back and adjust the air mix valves when the F/E was sleeping. That's his main job enroute, keeping the cockpit comfortable.
