Fit As A Navy SEAL

Well, there goes my career as a Navy Seal. :p I'm lucky these days I don't see my own picture in the obituaries!

I'm always amazed with the physical and mental challenges that those in the Special Forces can deal with.

Another very interesting article about the SEALs.

I don't know any SEALs, but an early, early boyfriend was a Green Beret. These people are not like you and me, that's for sure.

I just watched GI Jane a couple of nights ago, I can tell you Demi was incredibly fit for that role.

I'm always puzzled as to why the media can't understand that Special Forces, SEALs, DELTA, etc., are all components of Special Operations. Then again, when a senior White House Presidential Advisor confuses a uniformed General Officer for a waiter at a cocktail party, it's shouldn't be surprising.

HEY I did a PT the other day and got 70 push ups in 2 minutes. I CAN QUALIFY FOR ONE of the physical standards to become a SEAL. The run and the swim would kill my geriatric old carcass. But I can do the push ups! WOO WHOO!!:D

SOCOM is effectively a fifth, and separate, military service with it's own funding. But the matter is confused since operators are selected, trained, administered, and career managed (including rank and uniforms) by their parent services. They are mostly career stove-pipped within the service they started in, although there is certainly healthy cross-pollination at staff and senior levels.

They also serve some tours which are parent-service support, and not under SOCOM auspices.

I'm impressed you can still read print that small! :)

I can do the swimming and pushups. 7:30 miles? Forget it!

My body would fall apart during hell week, anyway.

I think what gets you is being cold, so very very cold while simultaneously being out of sleep and physically exhausted. That is harder to train for, and probably harder to cope with.
