Someone should check the consistency of that EMAS.

For me...my personal minimums are that when I see the thousand footers...AT THE OTHER END OF THE RUNWAY I am considering a go around. Im conservative though.

There was a whole thread on this video quite some time ago. I searched for it using Guadeloupe but nothing came up. Does anyone else have a better search idea? I think it would good to rehash the old thoughts on this mishap.

Might have been goin' a little fast there and discovered the ground effect.

A minimum for me is if the plane doesn't want to sit down, don't force it.

"That kinda..... Blows" <-----Understatement of the year so far.

You might want to re-think that one. Drag on the ground is three times greater than in air. If the guy in this video had put the airplane on the ground in the touchdown zone, instead of finessing the landing trying to bleed off excess airspeed in the flare, he wouldn't be picking bits of the glareshield out from between his teeth.

Either that, or simply go around.

Believe me, I don't presume to have more knowledge than the regulars on this board! But, what I'm seeing is a steep approach to a fairly short runway that spills into a lake. With a steep approach, it's hard enough to bleed off your speed - so with this particular runway you have to plan your risk management ahead.

When that Baron blew past the first touchdown markers, my guess is that he'd been trying to set it down but couldn't manage until he had about a thousand feet to go.

If you're going too fast, then you're just going too fast.

BTW - there's an apron on the approach end of that runway with other twins on it. So a good landing there is do-able.

I wonder if perf charts were done? Landing distance required? Calculated approach speed? Clearly too steep, too fast, should have gone around. What might have helped is if he did a true short field approach & landing. Sucks tho.
