Not many grads in any field (outside of med school) are having a cakewalk in their job search...

Isn't that the truth. I would not want to be graduating right now. I graduated in '06 at a time that it was easy to get hired. You could almost just take your pick for which firm do you wanted to work for if you came from a top ten or twenty school. There were news stories clips at the time saying that many companies were very worried about being able to fill all the engineering seats left empty by retiring baby-boomers. Far from how it is actually turning out! I see that many top grads in the professions are now unable to find work in many cases, and many firms are using the recession as a chance to send existing positions to India.
