P90x

When I'm not flying, I'm in the gym doing me some P90X. Do I have any brothers or sisters out there who consistently bring it!? I'm pretty dedicated, had an overnight in Albuquerque and did plyometrics in the hotel gym....plyometrics at 6,000 feet is not the most pleasant experience. On the flip side, the hotel washing machine was broken, fortunately I was able to get my uniform washed on my abs.

In all seriousness, P90X is a great program for those of us who travel a lot as it doesn't take much equipment at all and you can do almost everything in even the most primitive hotel gym. I've seen great results!

Do a search.

Tomorrow...er...Today...er... Wednesday the 28th is Day 1 of recovery week 1 for me. This is the 7th or 8th time I've tried starting it. The first time, I got through about 54 days. This time I've got enough motivation to get through all 90 days. Keep pressing play!

Well they say if you work out for an hour every day, eat right and don't drink beer you will get in shape. What do they use magic?

minitour 08-05-2010 09:19 AM

I could go off on a big spiel here. But like somebody else said, doesn't matter what you do. If you find a workout program, stick to it, and eat right, you're gonna see change.

Bear in mind, the infomercial has to sell the product, your results will vary.

When I started I was 12% body fat, 34 inch waist. The first month I was down an inch on the waist. By the end, I was down to a 31.5 inch waist and 8% body fat. With the exception of 2 5-day breaks, my workout discipline was 100%, diet not so much. This job is just too tough for that, but I did the best I could. Can't tell you how many McD's salads and chicken sandwiches I ate in that 90ish day period.

For anybody concerned about a recovery drink, consider chocolate milk. yeah, I know it sounds funny, but google it.

I used to HATE HATE HATE the plyo workout. Now I freaking love it!

Due to a severe QOL change, I can't do the P90X 100% anymore. But as a staple for leg/cardio, I do the plyo every week. For additional cardio I also do the Kenpo, combined with just light resistance weight training to maintain what I had at the end of the 90 days.

elcidflyer04 08-05-2010 01:12 PM

I started P90x a few weeks ago.
"Wow... Wow... Wow... and what does WOW spell upsidedown. MOM!"

Yeah, I hate it...sort of. I'd rather do Plyo than Yoga!!! But I think I hate it because it makes me sweat...and I feel like I've really worked out after the plyo session. It's a good time.

+1 to the Chocolate Milk.

After about 7-8 weeks, I simply gave up on Yoga and replaced it with a cardio workout. It's a killer workout, but I simply don't have (nor EVER will) the flexibility do it.

Which is a shame, since so many chicks seem to dig yoga.

EAndres1486 08-06-2010 02:42 AM

My fiance says there are 2 different styles of yoga, there is relaxing zen related yoga which she LOVES, and then there is kick you @** make me want to cry P90X yoga. Not sure where Tony Horton got confused at but I keep pushing play(when im home atleast). Any body tried the 2 a day version???????

I was going to, but when I'm working they've had us on pretty consistent 10-14 hour duty days. Toss in some time to eat and relax and I can either do doubles or sleep.

Maybe some day when I get a "real" job (as my wife puts it) and am home every day.

"Scissors, Get It?" I am also amused witht he whole "Pam the Blam" bit!

Made it 60+ days while doing an office job, now back to flying for the remainder of my deployment, so not so much anymore.... Did tone up some though, and gained ridiculous flexibility.

Outlaw2097 08-09-2010 04:18 PM

if i werent flying so much id get back into it...but got to day 45 last year. could tell a definate difference in stamina.

YOUVE ONLY GOT 5 MORE SECONDS...

and relax.

Thanks for all the insightful info. I was at 204 when I started running, now I am at 186 and would like to get to 170. I have hit a plateau in terms of the weight loss and need to mix it up. Can you do p90x and run? I run 40 miles a week on average. What do you p90xers eat on a weekly basis?

I eat what they tell me to eat. I thin their portion plan program is easy to follow, albiet a bit expensive. The one thing that will make the largest differenace is diet, so this I try to be very strict on.

I thought the "doubles" was simp,y doing cardio on "non-cardio" days starting phase 2

minitour 08-11-2010 06:26 AM

If you're already running 40 miles a week, I wouldn't think P90X would help you lose weight. You may actually gain weight as a result of the resistance training. Since you're running, you know that you have to make sure your caloric intake is high enough to fuel your body for those miles but not so high that you've got a bunch extra.

There are free calorie calculators online that will tell you what your net calories (per day) have to be to reach your goal. I'm using that in conjunction with P90X and it seems to be helping quite a bit. P90X had me at over 3000 calories, which is probably right...but the online tools started me at around 2600 and have decreased as my weight has decreased (down to about 2200/day now) and I'm consistently losing about 1.5-3.5 pounds/week.

If my knees could handle running, I'd do that instead of PlyoX (which I've been subbing in Cardio X anyways) on the Plyo day and maybe add it in on the Stretch/Rest day. Other than that P90X kinda wears me out. YMMV

Oh. Plyo Push-ups. I love those! I don't get airborne (probably), but they're still fun. And...CHOCOLATE MILK! Nom nom nom!

I didn't watch it, but it's got "Jim Rome" in it, so it can't be funny or sensical.

All too true my man, not a fan myself. But I "did my best", as well as "kept pressing play" to see what he had to say. It's actually pretty funny.

Maybe you can do a "Pam for Blam" modified move and skip through the intro :D
