The first time I heard that in the Bahamas I just looked at my boss with a curious look on my face and he just laughed.

I think it sounds cooler!

English is the official language until you fly into China....... In Shanghai, English was optional..... they spoke more in chinese than they ever did in English. Don't forget to forget to "climb and maintain 12,300 meters".

I recently flew my first ILS in a VERY long time with a VSI using 1,000s of meters per minute. Talk about messing with your mind!
I'm all for standardizing the phraseology used in aviation. "Line up and wait" - here I come!

Just as long as they don't add "After the landing." That has always seemed like an invite to trouble.

[quote=woodfinx;848629]EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 30th 2010, there will no long be phraseology for "(runway) position and hold". It will be changing to "(runway), line up and wait".

Sounds like we are going "Canadian".

Actually, it's ICAO-standard.

I think it's either part of a movement to make things more internationally standard or just to give American pilots something new to whine about and take their minds off the TSA and TFRs.

We Americans do have a funny way of pushing for "Standardization." I feel sure we usually reserve that word as a euphemism for "Do It My Way."
