Telex ANR headsets

850 works fine in most turbojets. Reliable, no batteries, compact. But doesn't have the same level of noise reduction as an over-the-ear unit so if you fly props or are looking for a silent ride, better consider a larger model.

I don't know anything about the -500, but I've got the -850 and it works fine. SWA started issuing them to us, so I've got an extra one. If you decide on the -850 and are interested in a used one, send me a PM. Cheers..

Slap,
I do have a gently used ANR 500 for sale. It has new moleskin earcups, a new microphone windscreen, and a new moleskin headband cushion. I'd really love to get it to a nice home and can give you a screaming deal since a new one is $500.00...if you'd like, check out my ad in the "Boneyard" forum. Or send me a PM.
I can also recommend the 850. We use them in our day-to-day operations in a Learjet and they are very nice. I've used both the 500 and the 850 in jets and they both work fine. If you want something very light, go with the 850. But the 500 is not very heavy at all (it's all plastic and much much lighter than a GA headset,) and if value is more important then go with a used 500 and you'll still have money in your pocket!

On ANR headsets in general:
Now that I've been on the -800 for a while, I've come to realize that my trusty Telex 550s aren't going to cut it when it comes to protecting my hearing long-term. Telex, David Clark, and Bose all offer respectable headsets, and I could use some input.
As an -800 guy, I want to lower cockpit noise, be able to easily hear ATC without cranking the volume knob to 11, and chat with my captain without keying the ICS. I've only got one set of ears to last me my whole life, so price is not a significant factor.
So, what's the consensus? What's the best ANR headset out there?
