Gotta love how the media always mentions the ground of the MD-80's two years ago!

I don't think two years ago is that long ago. Grounding an entire fleet is not something you can just shrug off. It is no secret the airframe is old and needs to be replaced. Also, let's give the media a break.

The general public doesn’t follow every aspect of aviation and the reporters need to proved background and perspective to readers who do not know as much about aviation as pilots. When reporters explained the difficulty involved with offshore oil drilling, I never got upset because they oversimplified the function of a blowout preventer becuase I am not in the drilling field. So when the news reveals that many pilots are fatigued, statistically aviation is the safest form of travel, or that copilots also fly the plane sometimes let’s not roll our eyes and scorn them because for us it is old information. However, if they keep doing reports on how safe the cabin air is, then give them hell.
