Calling all 737 pilots, Purdy Neat luggage?
Fellow pilots:
I'm getting ready to buy another piece of luggage and I'm wondering what pros vs. cons people have with the Purdy Neat bags. I will get a 22 inch bag since I'm currently on the 737, but I fly the 500, 700, 800, 900 series. The only reason I mention that is because the luggage rack behind the captain on a 500 is a little smaller than on the New Generation 737's. I've got a lot of coworkers that complain about ripping the pockets on the sides of their bags, so they stow them in the cabin overheads. Just want some opinions from other people.
1) Can you slide the standard Purdy Neat bag (103NG model) behind a captain on a 500 and 700-900 series or just on the 700-900 series?
2) Can you slide the Boeing 737 Purdy Neat bag (102NG model) behind a captain on a 500 and 700-900 series or just on the 700-900 series?
3) I know that Purdy Neats are heavy as can be, but how do they hold up? I've had Travelpro's last up to 4 years and Samsonites last 2 years after I've replaced wheels and bearings with new rollerblades wheels.
4) Is it easy to change the wheels and bearings out on a Purdy Neat bag?
5) Any accessories that are a must have?
Thanks in advance.

A couple of things..
I have the 102NG (737) bag. Side pockets are all ripped up due to the odd bolts sticking out in the "bag area" in the older 737s. I don't put anything in them because of that. My bag looks new except for the big holes that have formed. I have to tilt one side around the bolts then drop it in for a pretty tight fit. On the NGs it isn't a problem at all and slides in straight (with nothing in the side pockets). I don't think the bag would look as bad if had always been in the newer jets.
I've heard and seen bags that have been made with the side pockets removed. Those bags look a lot better and is what I would do if purchasing new. I think you have to call PNT directly because they don't sell it as an option normally. It's is made though.
Overall it's still a good bag and has held up good. Definately less wear in the newer jets.

Does Strongbags offer an airline crew discount? Gotta ask since I can get a Purdy Neat bag after discount for about $220, roughly the same cost as the Strongbag. Thanks for all the info guys.

I think the original StrongBags had some quality issues, which after hearing the complaints from those that actually had the bag, turned me off. I think they have fixed the problems, as I haven't heard any complaints in some time. I am partial to my PNT bag. I had the larger (103NG) at a previous airline and it still looks great after 7 years of abuse. If it fit in the 737 I would still be using it.
I forgot to add that I have had problems with the zipper pulls on my 737 bag. I'm not sure if it is the 737 causing the stress of them to fall off since I never had the problem with my other bag. They sent me replacement zippers and were easy to fix with a pair of pliers.
