getting bored?
 

this is for the guys who hold a line with either an airline or corporate...

do you still get excited about flying an airplane or does the monotony of things take over and you start to forget about how nice it is to fly jets for a living.

i am just starting the jet career now and i love it. at what point might this stop?

When I get "bored" I change airplanes or destinations. I have six airline type ratings. I try to bid places I have never been before. It keeps me occupied and makes me a better pilot overall.

It all depends with who u work for. If u work in a company with NICE equipment and good destinations u'll be excited all the time...:D

I still get excited to fly the airplane, but after awhile, FBOs start to run together. Sitting is sitting. The destinations that I wait for passengers don't make any difference (most of the time). I do still enjoy flying the airplane though.

yea same here.. if you have been to one Signature, or one Atlantic, or TAC, you have been to them all... its the same thing.. QT here, QT there

jsut wonderign how many people dont get excited by flying the airplane. there is a point for me that when i drive to the airport, i say to myself "wow, i get to fly a jet today and get paid for it"... when does this stop

I think the fun stops when you leave the training environment and move into the daily grind of origination checklists and an unending stream of four day trips to places you have been to many times before to fly an ILS approach that is virtually the same as every other one in the world.

Satisfaction comes from conquering challenges and from looking forward to new ones. As a line pilot once you are free from new hire training it could be a long time before you will have an opportunity to see anything new or for real learning opportunities. You are simply a piece of the machine a cog in the wheel. Your life becomes like the movie Groundhogs Day.

Aha! That's why we old coots loved the job right up 'til the day we had to leave. Any destination or layover is fresh and exciting if you've forgotten that you've been there before! :p

The mundane aspects such as waiting will always be there. Interaction with people you see frequently can make it easier to bear. Some caution should be taken not to get caught up in a gossip trap. If you have time on a wait, get away from the airport and see the local area.

Flying the same trip can become ho-hum, unless you find new ways to challenge yourself, such as trying to be ever smoother. Boredom stops abruptly when weather unexpectedly changes or a malfunction occurs.

In my previous job, I went to different places all the time. Big airports one day, airstrips the next. Jet one day, piston twin the next. That helped keep boredom down.

Now, I fly the same airplane, mostly between the same two airports. It requires much less work, and for now, that has kept it from being boring.
