---Leslie Nielsen died today---

Folks, we all need to bow our heads. The great comedian Leslie Nielsen died today, you know him as the Captain in the movie "Airplane".

We've all had our "airplane" experiences! At a party: "Billy, do you like to look at Roman gladiators", and such nonsense.

"Billy, have you ever seen a grown man naked?"

Folks, we lost a great man today, a man that made all of us laugh, and via his comedy, made our profession better. Fly west, Leslie Nielsen.

"Monsters from the Id"

His 1956 movie "Forbidden Planet" was much better than the other sci-fi productions of that era. One reason may be that it was based on a really good play: Shakespeare's The Tempest.

Tailwinds brother...thanks for the great comedy...

Mods...please don't move this thread because there are probably a lot of aviators that grew up to this man. Just would love to read everyones memories about him. I think that Mr. Neilsen earned our respect to be put on the "Majors" section...and not be lost is some section I never go to. Thanks...

I mean no disrespect to the Mods about the other sections on this website...just it seems that most of the traffic is on the Major or Regional fourms and just want to have this thread have the opportunity to grow...that is all...

God Bless Mr. Nielsen....

Leslie Nielsen WAS NOT Captain Oveur in Airplane. That was Peter Graves, who sadly passed not too long ago. Leslie Nielsen played Dr. Rumack. He is responsible for the phrase, "I am serious...and don't call me Shirley."

Sadly, we've lost most of the cast of Airplane! Leslie Nielsen, Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves and Barbara Billingsly.

I hope he's in heaven eating his favorite airplane meal.....lasagna. RIP Mr. Nielsen

Any of you guys want a good laugh? See if you can find "Bad Golf My Way" or "Bad Golf Made Easier".....classic!!!

captfurlough 11-28-2010 09:19 PM

I had Mr. Nielsen onboard a few of my flights. He'd always stick his head in the cockpit and make some funny remark like "I want you to know we're all counting on you." I replied, "yes, but I had the fish...." which brought a real smile to his face.

PinnacleFO 11-28-2010 09:31 PM

I just want to tell you both good luck, we are all counting on you. Rip

GrUpGrDn 11-28-2010 10:43 PM

Dang.....RIP

Fred Flintstone 11-29-2010 04:24 AM

Years ago in ORD sitting at the gate waiting to button up and push when Mr. Nielson poked his head in the cockpit door and delivered the "we're all counting on you" line. We cracked heads turning around to talk with him. Great person, funny actor.

Tailwinds Doctor, you brought many laughs to many lives!

R.I.P. Dr Rumack

Leslie Nielson dead at 84. Probably the most quoted movie in our industry. We'll miss you...

Ferd149 11-29-2010 06:00 AM

and don't call me Shirley.........

He will be missed, think his family would want a hundred thousand or so airline pilots showing up to the funeral? Now that would be a tribute to all the late night laughs he provided us.

Dougdrvr 11-29-2010 06:04 AM

Midwest F/As always said he was a class act. And , of course, he would stop by the cockpit and utter the infamous "I just want you to know, we're all counting on you!"

DYNASTY HVY 11-29-2010 06:18 AM

Good actor and he's going to be missed by a lot of people who grew up watching his many films .

clipperskipper 11-29-2010 08:30 AM

Airplane! is just one of those movies that you watch while channel surfing. I was filling out
a tare sheet on a 4x2 on ACK when I heard a really high voice say "I am checking in two of us for the flight to HYA", turned around and it was Julie Haggerty, she sounds the same. Other interesting people on ACK during the Summer were Mr. Rogers, my he always had a really neat story to tell, Tom Hanks who has a place on the Cape, and Tom Selleck. I am lucky to have met all of them.

meeko031 11-29-2010 01:43 PM

sad day, RIP detective Frank Drebin! :( no more naked gun movies!!!

It IS the most quoted movie in the aviation industry and, as was pointed out earlier, we've lost most of the cast of this classic movie.

Rest in Peace Mr. Nielson. We'll raise a glass and toast you, wishing you calm skies and a strong tailwind. Now get the clearance Clarence.

Thanks for the memories Leslie :)

Airhoss 11-29-2010 07:38 PM

This reminds me of my time at the battle of Macho Grande!
