I would be pretty nervous to be one of those troops after seeing the pilot lift off and for a second try. There is not that much clearance on the rear rotor at that angle. Also, I would love to know what was going through the blindfolded local they had. Between the noise, wind, and navigating the steep drop-offs he must have been very confused.

No doubt. A trusted crew chief would provide much better SA on a maneuver like this.
