Oh wait, I'm an actual cardiologist posing as a pilot, got it backwards. I haven't faked any part 121 though and I do have an actual PPC. :D

Seriously though, this is amazing that this can occur in the style of "catch me if you can." In order to apply for privileges at a satellite hospital I had to give transcripts, provide photographs of certificates and board examinations, and all of the licensure results are on the website. What likely happened is because he was just lecturing, he didn't really have privileges to treat patients, so he was kind of "guest-ed" in to the faculty instead of undergoing the standard / proper clearance. In a sense, he wasn't really endangering anybody.

I strongly agree with the last paragraph though. This guy was doing important work, which he was basically qualified to do, and shouldn't have lied about his history. It is too bad in a way, now he will have to stop forever.

I'm surprised that the students never really raised questions, but sometimes we are reluctant to challenge older physicians especially if they are semi-retired / not treating patients. I mean, it would be pretty obvious I've never sat in the front of an Airbus with 5 minutes of any of you guys quizzing me, even though I am intimately familiar with a single engine private craft... If this guy couldn't "speak cardiologist" the students might have assumed he was just out of date and focused on teaching instead of practicing.

Read "Catch me if you can," book that the movie was based on, book was excellent and you wonder how he got away with posing as a doctor and lawyer.

Maybe Dr. Hamman could join the Yes Men to propagate political messages along with original costumes and fake websites and mount attacks on industrial targets between scheduled passenger flights.

What's bad is when he does the digital exam with one hand on each of your shoulders.
