Default flight crew luggage advice

So I am just starting to review some options for crew bags when the time comes.

What size does everyone recommend for a flight bag, as well as your rolling luggage bag.

I want max dimensions but something that will fit in overheads and places I will need it to fix. Here are the options of rolling bag dimensions that I have found under $100,
22''H X 14''W X 8''D 10.55lbs.
or
H17" x W14" x D8" 9.2 lbs

What is every ones take on this?

I wish I could just keep using my little green rolly bag that I got at Sears on black Friday for $9.99 however I feel it wont last very long nor is it all that big, esp for holding multiple days of clothes.

You may be broke now but if you aren't then you will be in a few months. Do your best to spend high on a quality rollaboard if you can. Purdy Neat makes a line of baggage meant for pilots. They are not all that spectacular in terms of materials, but they sell the PARTS you need to maintain them which is what you will need a lot of in daily use. Anything bought from a mass mechandiser like Walmart or CostCo is a waste of money for the professional pilot because you cannot get replacement parts.

I never had a problem with the 22 inch bag except on RJs it may not fit in the overhead. But then they're gate checking almost everything.

I've been through 3 purdy neat bags and trust me they don't last any longer than other bags. Back in the day Purdy Neat had good repair policies, the last 2 times I sent the bag in it was a major pain.

Now days, i use the $99 Costco roll abord. So far it works great and has a excellent warranty - forget repairs

22" is generally you're best option if you're a commuter since it will slide under the jumpseat of a 737 and fit in the newer overheads.

As far as cost goes get what you can afford. I found a $50 bag that I used for my first 1.5years. It still works and now my mother uses it from time to time. Once you get kicked up to your new payscale then jump on a LW or my favorite, a strongbag. I've had my strongbag for 3yrs now. Well built and lighter than the LW. I had two small issues and both were resolved very quickly with one email. Great customer service. I've never had a LW so I can't speak about them however I'm completely sold on strongbags after 3yrs of use.

Agreed on the Purdy Neat bags (Luggageworks).

The Costco bag is a good strategy.

Now I live in the Caribbean and can't always get to a Costco. I bought a Vortex bag ( StrongBags - Flight Crew Luggage ) and have been pleased.

I stand corrected. If they won't fix it that's a deal breaker. Walmart will only warranty their bags for 90 days but once you learn what the weak point is you can stock screws, nuts, bolts, glue gun etc. and do repairs in the garage. That might be cheaper than tossing it out. I have one Wally bag with a lot of miles on it that still works well, I repaired it about five times.
