I built my time at Addision (ADS) as a CFI/CFII... an excellent place to network while flying your C152s and PA28s. I had gobs of single engine time by the time I got my ATP, but the connections I made there got me two excellent multiengine jet jobs (one being UPS).

Good luck!

ALLATP has a location or two in Dallas. You can log a lot of hours (a good bit being ME) with them.

Freight Dog,

I currently live down in Grand Prairie, here I am 4 miles from Arlington municipal where I did my training with ATP. I tried the Addison thing with M. Air (The butterfly), I left them because they were not the people I want to make money for. The owners require to much free work from you, their excuse was that is how you get your customers. Well, that's fine if that is all I have to do. Then, you are comadeared to worked the front desk 9+ times a month. While at the desk, you do nothing but secretary work for free. If customers come in, you can't fly with them, your on duty. It was a rediculous business plan for the employees, great for managment. Their excuse for not getting a secretary was that you would have no way of getting customers. I assured them that I could get and work with customers while standing behind the desk with my hands untied. Long story, but I was not going to operate like that. I just did not agree with it. Not to mention the rush hour traffic even after rush hour. So, I am looking for something on the south side of the Metroplex.

Thanks for the advice though, I do agree that Addison was a great place to snag a few upper level jobs. just wish that it worked out up there. These are not the only reasons that I could not make the commute, but, I will quite blabbing on.

LA Frequent,

I went to school at ATP in Arlington. The reason I cannot work for them, is that they require you to go to Jacks. to answer pohones until an opening comes up in the Dallas area. This could be 2+ months. If it was after next May, no problem. But my wife and sole supporter is working on her MBA and MS degree right now. She will finish next summer, so, I need to be around for support and help with the house and 4 dogs. I unfortunately jumped into aviation at the wrong time, so I am limited to staying around here until next month.

But thanks for the help anyway.

Doug

What is all this free work that I have been hearing about? I have been asking my FI about his job and how it all works, and he too has to do quite a bit of free work. Is this the norm at most instructing jobs? People are always complaing about cops and teachers about how they are so underpaid.. It seems pilots are the ones that are short changed...

Unfortunately, free work is part of the game. This includes covering the desk, taking out the trash, cleaning the office, anwering the phones, opening and closing the business, etc, etc. For some reason, others feel like you need to do these things to, let's call it "Pay your dues." I will never understand, nor will I ever agree with it. It's up to you what you think about it, these are my opinions, and i value my opinions dearly. You really have to look around and talk to folks first before you decide what workplace is best for you. not everybody is as screwed up or rude to their employees as it sounds. You just have to look. I will do just about anything, as long as I am asked nicely and I am treated with respect.
