Angel Flight

Anyone deal with these folks? Was thinking of looking into it to volunteer my plane and pilot services. I have an 01 C-172. Or are they looking for big planes? Also thought maybe that would get me some co-pilot time in something other than my plane.

Thoughts?

I have no idea, but good on ya.

I am quite positive they gladly accept 172's.... obviously not for long distance trips so it probably depends on where you are. As for the getting SIC time in other planes.... No idea but I imagine it would give you an opportunity to at least talk to some owners about it.

Best way to find out.... call them

I used to fly my Cherokee for them. I am sure they will appreciate it!

Most Angel Flight (and compassion flights from Lifeline Pilots and Grace Flight) are designed for small GA aircraft traveling within a radius of no more than about 300 miles. Passenger number and weights are given for each flight before you even agree to fly one. 172? If seen these flights done in 2-seat airplanes!

Get i touch with your local chapter of any of these organizations - they'll be glad to have you.

Warning: when you do one of these, you'll feel guilty about how good it makes =you= feel!

I talked to the wife and I we are onboard. I printed out the form to fax in today. Also going to look into the others mentioned above.

We have CHKD here in Norfolk VA so maybe someone needs a ride to here but really anything we can do to give something back will be fine with us.

Duksrule -

This is a great effort and I thank you for the consideration.
I wish that I had the ability to give in kind - either by aircraft or crew.
I hope that you will share with the APC community anything that you are able to do (within any privacy rules of course). I'm sure many of us would like to hear about what work is being done.

I like the Grace Flight site, it says they also cater to disabled Vets that need to get to the VA. Being retired from the Navy with 23 years this hits home with me. Not that the others aren't as important but it had a special meaning for me, knowing some guys that are missing parts and have to go for treatments. Honestly I think that I will apply at all 3 and try to do a few flights a month. Even if I need to rent a twin from the FBO that I lease my 172 back to, I think that I can get the FBO owner to give me a price break.

I am trying to do the same, talking the wife into joining AFNE, although limited with a VFR-only ship. The wife belongs to Pilots 'n Paws, always asking how much baggage capacity is available in certain singles?

Funny the AF web site says they want pilots with at least an FAA PVT. Then if you go to the individual sites, like Mid-Atlantic where I am at, they have a laundry list of requirements like having over 500 hrs, etc...

Now I can understand that they want the program and their passengers to be safe but this kind of comes down to beggars can't be choosers sometimes. I mean if the FAA says that someone is qualified to carry pax then that should be good enough. They even say that they don't certify their pilots and pax have to sign a release form to fly.

Well AF is off my list because even though I have a PVT and INST, and an airplane to volunteer, I am unfortunately not qualified to fly for free.
