Going on a Cruise

I have decided that i would like to take my wife on a cruise since it has been awhile since we have been able to really get away, it seems almost all of our vacations are merely going back to our home state for the holidays and never anywhere original.

I am looking to leave the Southern California area but i am flexible on that and i am looking on going for like 6-9 days or so to possbily the mexico area. We are looking for a cruise that is a happy medium. We do not want an elderly cruise and we do not want a family cruise with an abundance of kids running around the deck. Luxury would be nice but not so luxurious that we are paying 5k for the cruise. My price range that i think is reasonable is somewhere around 2-3k but it can be adjusted depending on the amenities.

I am just looking for advice from any of you that might have gone on a cruise before, and had a good, bad, or indifferent time and could point me in the right direction, or away from the wrong one.

Thanks!

Sgt,

Military folks are eligible for lots of interline rates, which can be as low as $500 per person per week! "Repositioning" cruises even less. Alaska tends to be most expensive (older crowd), Caribbean least expensive (younger crowd), Hawaii medium, with some sailings out of SoCal. Royal Caribbean, Princess, and Holland America are more upscale, NCL and Carnival less so. Also look at river cruises on the Mississippi, Columbia, Rhine, Danube, etc., or even a "Windjammer" sailing cruise. Google "interline" and check outfits like Perx.com, ABSea.com, Dargal.com, etc. Give them your e-mail address to get bulletins, especially on last-minute deals. :)

Tom,
that is great stuff...thanks for your help and your fast reply!
I am thinking that i am looking into leaving out of San Diego or maybe LA just for the fact of paying merely for the cruise and not $500 dollars in plane tickets for my wife and i to get to the port on top of the cruise price, i will keep looking though, i will definately look into one of these military deals. Someone else mentioned deals for vets too??

USMC, there are some Royal Caribbean cruises out of Long Beach that sound just like what you are looking for. I was just on one of their cruise ships to Mexico. The shorter cruises 3-4 days are very affordable, however they're known in our biz as the party ships. The longer cruises sound more like what you're looking for, and the ports of call are more interesting. You can email me privately and I can give you more information.

Sarge...keep this in mind..you get what you pay for. I learned this the hard way. Cheap cruise, ultra short cruise..you get a cheap cruise. A bunch of folks that you probably wouldn`t want to be around. Of course, like every thing else, there are exceptions. Anyway, welcome home and have a good time...this from another old Marine(and I do mean old..When I was in Chesty was a buck private, Dan Dailey was a lance corporal)

This is very true. I have been on some of those 3-4 day party cruises and they're not very relaxing. There is a cruise out there for everyone though.

I would look into a Carnival cruise. I have been on 3 Carnival and one princess. The last one I went on was on my Honeymoon in July, which left out of TX and we went to Jamaica, Grand Caymen and Mexico (7 days)
