iPad. 3G or no 3G, AT&T or Verizon?
I am looking into getting an iPad and am leaning toward 3G. It would be used for combined domestic and international travel. If I do go with 3G I am trying to decide if I should get the 3G through AT&T or Verizon. Any thoughts?
It looks like Verizon has more coverage in the states but I've heard that AT&T has a faster 3G network.
Does the ability to get a sim card in other countries with the AT&T one ever really come in handy or is there almost always Wi-Fi?

I got the ATT 3G. If you're never going out of your room, get the Airport Express to create your own wifi network in case they only have wired or crappy wifi. I rarely use the 3G but for the little bit extra it's nice when I need it. The ATT plan is pretty cheap. You can also get a limited amount of international MB for $30 from ATT. I've never used an international sim card for mine but if I was bidding a lot of Europe, I may do that. Verizon has better coverage but with ATT buying T-Mobile, their coverage should only be getting better.

If you want to save money and get the iPad 1... go AT&T... they have the 64GB for $529. Verizon's iPad 1 required a plug in antenna for mobile internet (non-wifi, that is). Try this link. AT&T's service is $15 per month before taxes.

Save the $130 and get the non3g, if you have an iPhone, 'roid, or other phone that can tether. Much better to get one data plan and spread the gigs around three devices (your laptop can now connect also), than to get separate data plans for multiple devices. Yes, a little more cumbersome to have to set you phone to hot spot, but I think you will see the numbers and flexibility work out better. And that is even if you choose to pay the $20 for tethering versus a jailbreak theft of service. And if you are international, your one international plan can be used on all your devices also. Skip the 3g.

Do you do any private flying? You really need the 3G so you have a good GPS and can use ForeFlight or other programs with it. The iPad with ForeFlight is becoming the moving map / Electronic Flight Bag of choice for the little airplane world.
