Layover van ride etiquette

Curious, if I had a long layover somewhere and my wife happened to meet me, is it ok/propper for her to ride from the airport to our layover hotel in DL provided Limo service? I'd never have her ask to ride with another DL crew to or from but if she's with me and the driver doesn't care is that cool?

I've done it before. No big deal. Sometimes the hotel may charge you an extra fee for having someone else in the room, especially internationally or if it's an all-inclusive hotel. Another consideration if you're going international is your wife usually will not be able to go through the crew line for customs/immigration. Most crews are cool, but you may want to be sure before you hold everyone up heading to the layover, while your wife has to wait with the masses to get through.

Have fun!

Perfectly acceptable!! When I was on the ER, many crew members brought an extra with them and they rode in the van. It really helps to pass the time on those layovers. Especially those layovers with no internet porn!!!

Still ask the Captain beforehand. I've never seen one say no, but it is his/her van.

Yep.... it's a courtesy...That's about where it ends. It's more that you're telling them that the wife is coming along in a polite asking manner. :)

What if there are two captain's scheduled for the same van and the other captain has a higher seniority number? Should he call that captain ahead of time?

When I was a kid, my father used to take the whole family on long layovers and we'd ride in the crew vans/limos etc. Didn't hurt that he was a CA for most of that time either though....

Call the Captian? That's funny. Since when does the Captain control what happens outside of the cockpit much less on the hotel shuttle?

It's nice that you have that kind of respect for your fellow crewmember, but I'm not sure I'd call the van "his".

I'd like to be hanging around when the captain tells his f/o's wife to find her own ride to the hotel. I'd actually pay money to see how that turns out.
