Default Assault Rifle Left On SPD Patrol Car

I was within a few blocks of this AR-15 last night! Just my luck that I don't get to snap the pictures. Or grab the thing and shoot a few rounds with it.

SEATTLE -- The Seattle Police Department is apologizing for an assault rifle left unattended on the back of a patrol car Monday night, and has launched an investigation into the matter.
First published by The Stranger, Nick Gonzales snapped a picture of the menacing-looking rifle on the trunk of a Seattle Police car. It was around 9:00 p.m. and the car was parked outside the Roosevelt Hotel, near Pine and 7th Avenue, with no police officers in sight, said Gonzales.
In addition, after an officer got back into the patrol car, it was driven away with the rifle still on the trunk. A woman also saw the rifle and followed the car to try to get the officer's attention.
Gonzales said he flagged down two other SPD officers on bicycles to tell them what he saw. As he described, they were "shocked as hell."
Two more witnesses also alerted police to the situation.
In response, the director of the SPD Office of Professional Accountability said in a statement, "It is unacceptable that a rifle was left unattended on a patrol car and people should expect more from their police department."
The commander of the West Precinct has begun an investigation, said the SPD.

Of course, the "menacing looking" rifle.

It looks like a baby rifle (at least the popular Tactical Carbine model)
Personally - I like the look and would have gladly grabbed the offending rifle off of the back of the police car and held onto it for the SPD until they came looking!

According to both the media and my inside source, the guy was unloading his stuff in a secured parking garage of the West Precinct. He put the AR-15 on the trunk of the car next to his, then forgot about it when he was done. As if that was not bad enough, a Lt. came along, and in violation of police policy, drove off in that car without making a cop's version of a walkaround. [Timmy Martins did a better job in that ALPA photo shoot, apparently].

The Lt. drove the car a few blocks away and went into a Starbucks. Talk about poor SA on everyone. One male citizen took the picture, while a female citizen tried to flag down the Lt. Finally, two bicycle cops were told and they pedaled over to secure the $1400 menacing-looking rifle.

SPD has been (and still is) under intense scrutiny over the actions of its officers. Something a stupid as this doesn't help change the public's already poor perception of it.

Could have saved a nice little chunk of my pay by just going to Seattle and walking around instead of actually buying one, eh?
