Absolutely correct. It is particularly strong, but expression limited to a vocal subgroup of the usual suspects. The vast majority of pilots or people, when sufficiently educated on an issue, can be extremely rational.
It is not surprising that the groupthink potential is particularly strong in cohesive military or police groups, also evidenced here - my Chuck Yeager quote is irritating to them which is why he is personally discredited / attacked to the outgroup (nothing to do with flight knowledge, etc.) Obviously this kind of phenomenon can be a beneficial / adaptive thing in war, but, we're not at war here. This phenomenon is a big reason that a civilian is the head of our military.
I'm pretty sure that terrorist groups appreciate KCM and the FFDO program which are great avenues for attack.
You're one of "the 1%" here.
Let's get back to TOTD. I was going to nominate a lavender tool but his quote was apparently deleted.

No, it wasn't. It was actually a comeback. It's one word. Use a dictionary, or spell check, or repeat 10th grade.
Even your lame, trolling retorts are replete with grammar and spelling errors. Ironically, I'm sure you want to be treated as a professional a while flying your "7er".

In fact, I've been patiently waiting for the good doctor's eloquent and reasoned response to questions raised about a topic that HE invited discussion on in the first place. So far? Crickets.
Although, to be fair, he has hurled some personal insults at me in lieu of an actual answer.
<cough, cough>pusillanimous ****ant<cough, cough>
By the way, Packrat, I'm pretty sure you don't know what the word "groupthink" actually means. You can't just use that as an insult to someone who holds a different opinion than you. There's more to it.
Well, I guess you can just use it as an insult whenever you want; but you'd just be wrong.

As people who are actually familiar with TSA and aviation security (as opposed to you, that is), I'm sure that just about anyone on this board could explain to you why your above statement is laughable absurd. Think about it. And just let me know if you want me to explain it to you, okay?

Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon that occurs within a group of people, in which the desire for harmony or conformity in the group results in an irrational or dysfunctional decision-making outcome. Group members try to minimize conflict and reach a consensus decision without critical evaluation of alternative viewpoints, by actively suppressing dissenting viewpoints, and by isolating themselves from outside influences.
Loyalty to the group requires individuals to avoid raising controversial issues or alternative solutions, and there is loss of individual creativity, uniqueness and independent thinking. The dysfunctional group dynamics of the "ingroup" produces an "illusion of invulnerability" (an inflated certainty that the right decision has been made). Thus the "ingroup" significantly overrates its own abilities in decision-making, and significantly underrates the abilities of its opponents (the "outgroup"). Furthermore, groupthink can produce dehumanizing actions against the "outgroup".

You DO realize that your description of "groupthink" above is the perfect indictment of political correctness, right? I mean, you can't help but see that, right? Right?! And again, just let me know if you need this explained to you. I'll try to use smaller words, if that'll help.
Not to mention, the last few sentences describe you perfectly, Doc. Your "inflated certainty" about their "rightness" of your opinion in this regard, despite having zero empirical or statistical evidence (or even any kind of experience) to back up that opinion, is exactly what you've described in your quote. In fact, the actual available facts and evidence that are out there, all work to contradict your oft-repeated opinion, but clearly you can't be bothered by that. It's not what you and your group want to hear. That's why you shy away from, you know, ... actual facts.
But hey, keep repeating your mantra. Don't worry about those pesky contradictions. It's what your likeminded group wants you to think. You're doing them proud!
