TV flying shows
I was having a discussion with another pilot about TV flying shows from the past. We had a hard time remembering them. Here are some, can you think of others. I'm think of shows with flying in it or centered mainly on the flying.
Black Sheep Squadron - F4U Pilots (Robert Conrad) Call to Glory -U2 pilot (Craig T. Nelson) Tales of the Gold Monkey - Grumman Mallard/Goose pilot (good show) I know there is more. |
Wings - comedy centered on a Cape Air like airline
Jag - frequently centered on military flying. Airwolf - helicopter action series with Ernest Borgnine. |

It was cool to see Continental Express ATR's in the background shots (rarely). I flew the ATR's for Express. I never got into Jag, not enough flying. Just another lawyer show to me. |
Don't forget about...... Riptide (the pink helicopter)
and I think there was the show The Hogan Family or something like that. I never watched that one. Sandy Duncan with the glass eye freaked me out too much. |
Skyking- Guy flying around in a cessna 320. I've never seen it because it is about 30 years older than I am.
Magnum PI- I remember a Hughes 500 used a bunch on that show. |

Wasn't the dad on Growing Pains a pilot too?

Magnum PI- I remember a Hughes 500 used a bunch on that show. "Sky King" (1951) "From out of the clear blue of the western sky comes Sky King" was the familiar opening to television's premier aviation program. Operating from his Flying Crown Ranch in Arizona, Sky King, his niece Penny and their Cessna 310 airplane "Songbird" were constantly involved in one adventure after another. Viewed by many children in the 1950's, this program was responsible for inspiring many later aviation careers. I copied the above from a internet movie database. I never saw an episode. It ended long before I was born. I thought I heard that it was a 320 too. The summary above could be wrong about the 310- not that there is much difference. I've flow both, but the oldest I flew was a 1964 model. The helicopter on Magnum was always cool. Wasn't "TC" the pilot's name? |

Plot Summary for "Growing Pains" (1985) It's hard enough to raise a kid nowadays but when you have to cope with THESE kids, things tend to get out of hand! Dr Seaver, a psychologist and his wife Maggie Seaver, a journalist, try to do their best raising their family and although their kids, Mike, Ben, Carol and Crissie, cause them endless problems, they manage to keep the family close together. As long as they got each other, nothing else matters... |
