Default Is this the T3?

Are these the T3a aircraf the AF just had scrapped at Hondo airfield a few months ago because they were snapping wings off?

It does not appear to be. Here is a site with some info about the Firefly. It had an IO-540. And was intended to replace the military version of the 172 becuase of it's aerobatic capability. I believe the AF Academy is now using DA-20 Katanas with the instrument panel reversed so the trainee has his right hand on the stick, and left on the throttles like you would in a fighter.

Those are S1A1 Marchetti-sf 260's and Extra 300's.
Both of which would outperform any piston trainer the military has...

The T-3 had two problems... Fighter jocks getting in them and ripping wings off. The second was a fuel flow issue. Starved the engine once they upgraded it to a bigger hp. They sent one to Baylor and put in on the test stand there. That was the conclusion our dept. came up with.
