1937 Popular Mechanics would explain it. I just wanted to point out that Benzol aka Benzine is very bad if you inhale or touch it and ups the probability of getting cancer so much you might as well jump off a building now. Ethanol would work great. Has much more oxygen in it and would boost milage :) Outside of that I rather enjoyed reading!

I use a hairdryer and heat the label up real good. This softens the glue and it usually comes right off. If it is putting up quite a fight, then concentrate the heat at the leading edge where you are peeling the label.
