There are a few on my FB page that actually believe the country is 2014 years old. Wish I could be them for a day.

The NYT strikes again, I wonder how many really understand the implications of this type of screed.

Jungle, are you going to address the article and any validity it may hold?

What valid argument do you think it holds?

I can only laugh at the debate over punctuation. Notice the capital letter after the period.

The argument over individual rights vs collective rights will go on forever. Two things: were you able to check victim in the box on the police report and can you possibly believe that the police are going to be there when you really need them. The answer is NO( by Supreme Court ruling) and you are responsible for your rights and your safety. If you feel comfortable thinking you will be protected, be my guest and enjoy the results.

These are almost certainly the same people who believe the earth is only 10,000 years old.

As to the possible error in punctuation....the documents impact and context are clearly achieved regardless of the presence of a period. The Declaration of Independence is not a legal document; it is an essay stating the rights of man as understood by our forefathers. It is a list of grievances and defines how its going to address these grievances by establishing a Government by the authority of the governed.

Don't ever make the mistake of believing that the state is going to protect you, if you do you have ignored all of history and all of reality.

You are the responsible party regardless of what the NYT would like you to believe.

jungle, usually you take an article and dissect the parts and give a cognizant reply...not sure where you got that I thought the govt was going to take care of me. Trying to interpret writing of individuals dead for 200+ years is always interesting.
