NYC smells!

Strange gas like odor in NYC today, authorities say it does not appear to be a dangerous gas but who knows.

Wait, you mean that smell isn't normal?

So does Terre Haute, Indiana. I think Steve Martin called it the armpit of America.

Concur. I was driving x-country many years back. Stopped at a Gas station/restaurant just off I-70 in Terre Haute. Got out of the car and was hit by a pungent odor that smelled like a 2 day old garbage can in back of a Seafood restaurant in August..........
Went inside and the Restaurant had a ton of those "Shell No pest Strips" hanging from the ceiling. The waitress brought me my sandwich and when she set it down it was immediately attacked by a squadron of Flys! I promptly got back in the car and dined in ST Louis a couple of hours later.

Terre Haute is French and I believe the it translates to "High Land".
Swamp land is a more like it! :)

I hope Jon Stewart is back with a new daily show tonight, he'll have a field day with this one. I was watching CNN and the mayor was doing Q&A in a press conference and actually said "the smell of this gas will pass". You KNOW this will be one quote that will be presented out of context time and time again.

HAHAHA, This is great. I'm from Indiana, and while i was at Purdue, the flights there we called it "Terrible Hole." Now the real question, how many people can actually pronounce it correctly?

No, the real question is how did I survive 2 years of my life there and still come out with a first class medical?

BTW, it's 'tara hote' phonetically speaking.

My brother spent 4 years there. He's not normal.
