Default Bad news from VAN’S

As the result of a number of factors, Van’s currently faces serious cash flow issues, which must be addressed quickly to ensure ongoing operations. We are confident we can work through this situation, but some changes are required.

I guess that RV-6 kit will sit a little longer, then.

During this period, shipments will be delayed, kit orders will not be processed, and refunds will not be issued. We will be unable to conduct factory tours and demo flights.
Wow, that’s not good. Wild that seemingly the most popular and established kit can’t keep the doors open. Having built a non RV, I was always envious of their build setup. So streamlined and foolproof.

Reminds me of the famous quote. Mr. Ford, you do not have a knowledge of what it costs to make your car. That is why you are losing money.

Vans is going with Chapter 11 now.

Prices to be raised 32%; anyone who wants to continue with their kits, parts, or purchases will pay the higher price or request a refund as an unsecured creditor, and thus will get a partial refund.

It's not terribly surprising, unfortunately. Van's became a different company with a different philosophy when Van himself stepped back and retired. It seems like that's pretty common when the founder/visionary leaves. Southwest is one example, IBM another. The companies usually survive and even prosper, but with a change in personality and some definite growing pains.

I still love flying the RV that I built, but there's no way I'd build another.
