Anyone Ditched Cable?
 

All I want to watch live is sports and from what people tell me is that there are a number of devices (Roku types) that will allow you to stream from ESPN and what not. The wife watches TV shows recorded on the DVR but it seems you can watch all of those pretty much the minute after it airs with some of these devices.

I'm tired of spending over $160.00 a month on worthless TV and internet when I can upgrade the internet for a few extra dollars a month and stream everything live.

Has anyone gone this route and have any input or suggestions on what the best way to do this is?

I cut the cord years ago. Roku box + Amazon + Netflix + Hulu Plus + SlingTV and OTA antenna. Total is $40 a month + whatever your internet costs. Plus you can watch your stuff anywhere with wifi.

Great thread! We've wanted to pull the plug on our service for a while now. I'd be interested to hear what others are doing.

Ditched it 2yrs ago, got a roku, and netflix, paired with an antenna...works good, last long time

Just pay $40/month for all the internet we want, and watch Netflix, redbox the movies, stream from Apple, and over-the-air antenna.

Live sports it's the only thing we miss, so we just plan a date night at the sports bar / restaurant and watch it there over dinner if it happens to be at mealtime or over wings and beer if it's not at mealtime.

Hulu and Netflix - haven't had cable in 3 years.

I've been disconnected from cable for over a year now. I'm a big sports fan and it's killing me. LIVE STREAMING means 2 minutes behind... And that's if the app or stream is working properly. Streaming in HD? Only when it feels like it. Want to check social media? Wait till after the game to avoid spoilers. Want to look. At your phone to check messages? Wait till after the game because your buddy just texted TOUCHDOWN STATE! while the stream was in commercial break. The MLB.tv app works the best for reliability but overall for all sports, the delay is too much for me, especially during big events.

No cable for over 5 years. The bad scripts/actors of reality tv are reason enough. I've become less and less interested in regular season (and most playoff) sports and even more disinterested in SportsCenter. Admittedly, it's a little difficult when the MotherShip broadcasts the FBS National Championship. But, in the 12-24 hours afterward, I'm over it.

If I could get HBO/Showtime for their fantastic series' (is that how you pluralize "series"?), I would.

Looking at it another way, 1200-1800 bones/year are not being spent on my not watching 90% of the channels offered in a cable package. There are plenty of decent shows/Sunday afternoon football on network tv.

No cable for 9 years. DVDs when we feel like watching a movie and PS3/Netflix for the wife and kiddo.
