I am kinda like Arnold. I am a fiscal conservative, but fairly liberal/moderate on social issues. My favorite politician is Diane Feinstein cause she's not a crazy liberal.

And no matter what my political beliefs... No matter what my political affiliation... I love California and I don't want this AWESOME place to get wrecked by global warming.

We think a lot alike Ry! Do you think many of these people have ever seen or stepped foot in "Moron County?"...LOL. I'm suppose to go hiking somewhere down along Skyline Blvd and the San Mateo Coast this weekend. My friend wants to show me some of your redwoods and trails. You're an engineer in Silicon Valley, right?

That's nice. Unfortunately the UN says you are doomed. Here is a short summary of their "findings".

[edit] IPCC Fourth Assessment Report: AR4
This documents a current event.
Information may change rapidly as the event progresses.

Main article: IPCC Fourth Assessment Report
Work on the fourth assessment report (AR4) is well underway[6].

The Working Group I report was published on February 2, 2007[7]. Its key conclusions were that[8]:

Warming of the climate system is unequivocal
Most of the observed increase in globally averaged temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations
Hotter temperatures and rises in sea level "would continue for centuries" no matter how much humans control their pollution.[9], although the likely amount of temperature and sea level rise varies greatly depending on the fossil intensity of human activity during the next century (pages 13 and 18)[10]
The probability that this is caused by natural climatic processes alone is less than 5%
World temperatures could rise from anywhere between 1.1 and 6.4°C (1.98 to 11.52°F) during the 21st century (table 3) and that:
Sea levels will probably rise by 18 to 59cm (7.08 to 23.22in) [table 3]
It is more than 90% certain that there will be frequent warm spells, heat waves and heavy rainfall -->
It is more than 66% certain that there will be an increase in droughts, tropical cyclones and extreme high tides.
Both past and future anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions will continue to contribute to warming and sea level rise for more than a millennium.
Global atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide have increased markedly as a result of human activities since 1750 and now far exceed pre-industrial values over the last 650,000 years.
Working Group II and Working Group III reports are scheduled for early April and early May, respectively. The AR4 Synthesis Report (SYR) is expected to be finalized during the last quarter of 2007.

Author lists and a chapter outline of the WGI report are available[11].

Jungle, you are quite the cool aid drinker. When I get to the hotel I will have more time but you really need to listen to a few more sources other than...well you know.

So far you haven't given us any more sources, but if anything is obvious it is that you can only drink one brand of Kool-Aid.
What I have given you is a report summary from the UN IPCC, do you dispute their findings?

I'm still laughing at the kind of source you think is accurate. Shall we review their publication titles one more time?

Jungle I agree with you in many ways and am glad to see another person who understands the issues we face.
It is unlikely that man has not contributed to the global warming issue in some way. Even if people don't believe in science and facts behind global warming, you would think that they would be smart enough to know that what you spew in the air is what you will breath just as what you dump in the ground is what you will drink. If find it amazing that we see more diesel cars (pickup trucks) on the road everyday when their emissions are toxic and loaded with many carcinogens. I don't understand but I guess it is ignorance. Ya just cant be that stupid. We should all give a crap about the environment we have to live in. We are headed to disaster. It is no bull#$@%. Scientists are finding all sorts of destroyed ecosystems all over the globe. Unfortunately the destruction is logarithmic. The issue is not only global warming.

flyerny, The point I am trying to get across is that the issue has become extremely political. None of the political hucksters from energy companies to Gore are telling the whole truth, but rather they are selling a line of political crap.
Rather than call each other names or try to stereotype people because they happen to disagree, I would much rather talk about the actual problem and solutions devoid of politics.

To call any forecast or solution definitive at this time is just wrong.

Here is my last article by a very well respected MIT climatologist, and I'm sure it represents a very balanced view and comments on the politics of BOTH sides of this debate.
Take a little time to read it if you are interested, it is too long to post here but not a difficult article.I think most of you will agree it is fair in all respects.

And of course, for those of you bold enough to try another flavor of your favorite drink, you can look here for some excellent reading.

BTW, just to pi$$ jungle off, the reason all of those positive changes have taken place is that the government mandated the decrease in emissions. I want to be a Libertarian, but I just don't trust consumers to make informed decisions when it comes to environmental policy. And don't try to tell me that we can't have our cake and eat it too: The '07 Cummins Dodge has 90% lower overall emissions than my '01 and has 105 more horsepower and 145 more foot-pounds of torque.

I am far from being upset at your intelligent, fact driven choice. Much better than empty emotional whining.
In theory, the Government consists of the people and their elected representatives. The better informed they become the better off we will all be. Thanks again for the accurate information.
