Finally, another thread that has absolutely nothing to do with aviation or airlines.

The other night, I was over at the law school judging the new Intramural Mediation Competition. I usually only judge Moot Court, but thought I might enjoy a change of scenery.

The hypothetical pitted a green energy homeowner against the Homeowners Association and its president. The homeowner wanted to recycle, compost, put up solar panels, install a windmill, start a bee colony, and already purchased 6 hens and one rooster.

Being a city girl all my life, I always thought a rooster's sole purpose in life was to crow at dawn. I did not know that hens lay eggs even if there is no rooster around., but that some breeds of hens lay more eggs in the presence of a rooster. I also did not know that some people might like to use fertilized eggs in their omelets. Would that be like eating "balut?"

The presence of a rooster has many advantages, large and small, to a poultry flock beyond what was stated above, but they don't crow only at dawn. Since the case involves a "homeowners association," it is implied this is a suburban location as opposed to a rural one. Chanteclaire's welcome, I believe, would quickly wear thin with the neighbors and run afoul of association bylaws/covenants regarding noise.

Donkeys are mean. Out here in the styx, all the farmers have at least a couple donkeys in with their herds as guardians against predators.
