Homemade humidifier?
 

Anybody know how to make a homemade humidifier, like for a dry hotel room? I read something a long time ago about filling the ice bucket with water, placing a washcloth on it etc., etc. Anything to it? I'm tired of dry skin and a scratchy throat while on the road! I searched the forums but couldn't find anything. Help! :confused:

Take the ice bucket, fill it with water, take a small towel and soak it. Put one half in the bucket and the other half hanging out the side. Then set the bucket next to the fan vent in the room with the free end of the washcloth over the vent. I dont know if it is in my head or not but it seems to work.

Have you tried turning the shower on full hot and letting run for a few hours?

Bonus hint: Hang your uniform in the bathroom for a wrinkle removing steam "pressing".

Yes it works. The typical ice bucket holds about a half gallon of water. It will last about 5-6 hours. Make sure it`s a towel and not a face cloth. There`s more to this job than shooting approaches and holding patterns.

It's some of the best layover advice out there. You have to be careful, though. At my last job we used to stay in one hotel that had an independent water heater in each room. If you let the water run more than half an hour or so, it meant a cold shower for you. :eek:

I'm trying the humidifier now...will let ya know if my skin becomes silky smooth in 5 hours or so =)

Carefully fill the ice bucket with water, then pour the water evenly over the carpet near the HVC inlet area, repeat as needed. The carpet will look better too, and your wicking surface is vastly improved.

I just drape a wet (though not dripping) towel over the entire outlet grill of the AC and turn the fan on. Sometimes I have to set my shoes on top of the unit to keep the towel from sliding off. Also, place a rolled up towel at the base of the door when you run the shower to humidify your whole room. Once in a blue moon you'll find a hotel with smoke detectors that can be triggered by the steam. The ****hole we stay at in HLN is like that, but there are signs warning you (and you can use the shower cap to perfectly cover the smoke detector). What we need is a small unit that you could pack in a bag, and that could draw water as needed from the ice bucket while sitting on the nightstand. I HATE dry hotel room air!
