GSP Employee Parking Rate Increase
As of July 1, 2016, employees will no longer pay the discounted rate for airport parking. The airport is publicly owned. The new rates are the highest I've seen in my career, and a group of commuting airline employees are gathering some information to try to fight this. So, a few questions:
1. If you commute and pay for parking, where do you commute from and how much are you paying? 2. Have any of you ever dealt with this? 3. Do you have any advice that could help us be more successful in this adventure? |
Airport parking rates are ridiculous everywhere.
As bad as yours may be, does it top these "worst" rates nationwide? No real surprise that Chicago (MDW & ORD), New York (JFK & LGA), and LAX lead the list. The most expensive airport parking in America - TODAY.com And this list is from 2014. They've probably only gone up since then. You may be better off with off-facility commercial parking with bus transfer to the airport. Or sometimes, there are nearby hotels that offer a similar 'long-term' parking (normally for passengers who stay there) with van transfer to the airport. Or maybe even find a lot farther away with cheap monthly long-term parking and use Uber to get to & from the airport. Not that I would have much hope for it producing quick results, but you might consider politely petitioning the airport board or parking authority for commuter exceptions or special arrangements. Joining with other employees or commuters might draw more attention and highlight the degree that you are being treated unfairly. |
