Default CFI question

It's been awhile since I've had to deal with this but isn't getting your CFI rating count as ground school instructor also? I know it's not an AGI but can't you instruct ground school? I'm filling out airlineapps.com and it ask about it but seperately. I know the CFI can teach ground, it's a way to still keep livin if you lose the medical, but does it count as "Ground school instructor"? This is more of a technicality.

I'm not really sure of the officiality of it all, but you're right, you can teach ground regardless. Even if you did lose your medical, you could keep your CFI current, just keep doing the tests every 2 years and you're fine.

So basically speaking, you can't fill in the box if you already have the CFI, because that over-takes the CGI, just like an ATP over comm-instr ratings

You can fill in the box, but only if you actually hold a ground instructor certificate. They are completely separate, but the CFI allows you to conduct ground instruction as well as flight instruction.

It doesn't per se "over-take" the CGI rating though, and a CFI can still obtain at CGI rating after becoming a CFI (and must do so if they wish to obtain a gold seal CFI certificate).

For the gold seal you need the AGI I don't believe I"ve ever heard of the CGI. So am I wrong if I check the box on the airline apps?

I believe it is...

Basic Ground Instructor (BGI): Can teach private ground.
Advanced (AGI): Can teach commercial ground.
Instrument (IGI): Can teach instrument ground.

A CFI (CFII) can get an AGI (IGI) by filling out an 8710 and taking it to the FSDO (you might have to take the appropriate written AGAIN, but I'm not sure about that). I never bothered to do this...whats the point?

GI certs in my opinion are for pilots-in-training who have an opportunity to get paid to teach ground before they get their CFI. I can't think of any other use.

Rick you can teach commercial without the AGI because as a CFI you can teach commercial students. From what I've gathered the AGI allows you do a few things. A)Get your gold wings and B) you don't have to keep documentation of either the students writtens or don't have to keep up with endorsements... I can't remember anymore. I just know the AGI helps you get gold seal and you to slack on a little paperwork. I guess I wont' check the box then.

Right now I just opened up my logbook pro and have only 800hrs in it. So I'm roughly 1000 hrs short. Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day lol. The way they ask questions on hours in each type of aircraft is a little to indepth in my book but I guess I'll have to do it.

Yes, a cfi can teach any ground that a BGI or AGI can, I did not mean to imply otherwise. I never had much interest in the gold seal thing I guess, my future cfi activities are pretty limited by the airlines.

lol yea i understand that. Just on airlineapps.com they give you tons of little boxs and I feel the more I can check the better heh. So I'm trying to figure it all out.

New question. I'm adding each and every single flight into my logbook pro software. I'm about 1400hrs into it and my total time is dead on. My SEL is .1 off. However my multi is showing a few hours more, my nights a few hours more, and my XC is about 30hrs more. I've gone back and printed and quickly flopped through were I have all my XC's and they are logged correctly in my book and on the printout which means my fingers on the calculator messed up somewhere. However I don't know where and there's a lot of entries. Is it possible for me to just draw a line in my logbook, update all the numbers on it, then attach a note in that remarks section stating that "Correction for mathematical error" on the note? I'm also kinda worried about the [I certify that the entries in this log are true.] place where I signed my name when in truth it wasn't true. How should I go about correcting this?

I went through the same drill at about 1400 hours. I had as many errors and I found them ALL by:
1) Entering all the numbers in the software.
2) Comparing the totals on the bottom of EACH logbook page with the software totals up to that date (use the date filter). This allowed me to isolate each error to the page it occured on.
3) When a discrepency appeared, I analyzed the page until I found it.
4) Then I made a NEW logbook entry with a plus or minus value as needed in the appropriate column(s) to correct the error, and made a comment as to the date and cause of the error (math or forgetting to carry time forward). I also corrected a few data-entry errors in the software.

It all adds up 100% now, and all of errors are accounted for so I know I'm not claiming time I don't have. Remember, you might have fat-fingered some data entry and maybe the paper book is correct on some of those.

So instead of going back, finding the error somewhere, then going through each page of both logbooks adding them all up you'd recommend just finding the errors then on one page make all the new entries showing the dates the errors were made on then just go from there?

Dang why can't this just be easy. I was hoping to just print out the logbookpro sheet and keeping it in the back of the book for records.. Too the grinding stone!
