Shipping Household Goods/Cars
I'm moving to Hawaii and am curious about everyone's experience with or reviews of shipping companies. Any pitfalls or certain companies to avoid? How long does it take for stuff to get from CA to HI? Storage costs per month once it gets there? How difficult is the claims process? How expensive is it in general (how much weight did you ship at what cost)? Did anyone ship from anywhere besides CA? Any crazy rules for shipping a car you wish you would have known beforehand? Any other words of advice are welcome. Thanks!

Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk If you drop the car yourself in Long Beach, it will be $1050 to ship it. You can not have anything in the car. They will check it. I shipped stuff using Pods. Definitely the cheapest way. They will drop the pod at your house, you take as long as you want to fill it, then call them they pick it up and will deliver to your place in HI. You can have them store the pod until you are ready for about $225/month. A 16 ft pod cost about $6000 total. Moving companies will be a lot more. |

If you have FedEx benefits as a 121 Jumpseat reciprocal try that. 75%off.
Done it multiple times both directions, 2 day. Sell the big stuff. Buy once settled in off Craigslist. Remember people are doing the same thing in the other direction. And not going to spend $6000 on their $500 couch and household crap. Also the gas in the car needs to be nearly empty. Good luck. |

Thanks! Could you go into a little more detail about this? I've never worked 121 before. I'm starting with Ohana and applying to HAL when the window opens next month.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk You can call Pods and get a quote for free. They can give you a schedule of when the pod will arrive if you give them dates when you want it picked up at your house. Moving your stuff is the easy part. Finding a place to live on Oahu is more difficult. See other thread.... |

For the safety check, yes. They will tell you any items that need to be fixed before they issue they give you the approval sticker. I have had to buy new wipers once, and new tires a different time in order to pass.
Be aware that matson won't ship your car with any cracks or nicks in your windshield, with some exceptions so check with them if needed. |
