Default Inter-Island Seniority

I would like to know if flying the inter-island flights is a senior or a junior operation. In other words, can a new-hire fly the short flights or does this operation run senior?

It's relatively junior. Pretty much hiring into each airplane. Some classes are all 717, others no 717.
