Default Reserve rules?

Can anybody give me an idea about what the reserve rules are at Hawaiian? Short call and long call? Expected time to sit reserve as a new hire?

I would be trying to commute from the west coast if at all possible as a new hire. With a move to the Islands in a year or two.

Thanks for the help!

Reserve isnít great. All short call and the Reserve Availability Periods change at desire of scheduling the day prior. Cannot pickup trips or swap reserve days easily. Only saving grace is can usually get all 12 days off in a row to help commute, if youíre a commuter. No idea on current reserve times.

P.S. Commuting on company metal is often more painful than offline. I wouldnít do it first year.

Thanks for the replies. I'm Really trying to find a way to make this work IF (and that is a big IF) I get a call.

Looks like I would be looking for a crash pad and trying to string days off together to go back to Socal. I'd like to avoid a move while my kid is in High school. I have dragged the family around the country enough chasing this career.

Default Reserve rules?

^^^ Just know that there are not an abundance of crash pads out here.

Edited. Seriously, reserve at HA is not that bad compared to reserve elsewhere. IMHO, if youíre not prepared to just move out here though... Good luck.

On top of that crash pads can run in the $500-1000/mnth range for a room.

With the way our trips work, reserve is typically pretty benign. If you are on your last two days and they haven't called by mid afternoon, you can bet that your done for that day and the next.. (unless you're 717 of course)

In my experience, there is very little moving of your days off, and scheduling will work with you as best they can for specific reserve windows.

We have areas where we could improve on some work rules (reserve being one) But the type of flying we do lends to a very nice work day compared to other Legacies, most of the time.

Will they release you, or do you just have the sense that your days are most likely free?

I haven't spent much time on reserve, and it's been awhile.. IMO they probably wouldn't release you.. Consider that on a typical day(depending on a/c) there may only be 7-12 reserves for the entire day...and I'm sure scheduling has "numbers" they have to fulfill to make the "paperwork" look right...they place limits on how many 2 day long reserve periods you can bid for in a month.

I think most reserves figure out their own bidding technique to minimize call outs.

If you're a commuter from the mainland, you possibly could ask to be released in time for your flight home on the last day, or atleast in time for another carriers later in the day.

If you live out here, you could probably plan your last day as a day off in terms of social events etc.. that has been my experience on the widebody flying during reserve...

Thanks for the responses, KAF. You've been a don't of knowledge.

Hope at least one of the applicants here gets the call in November...
